Here’s another way to look at it: Our fat calls are basically our microscopic safe-deposit boxes where we store fat, which is the body’s reserve source of fuel and energy. Remember, we have evolved over many thousands of years to survive prolonged periods of starvation. So our bodies are brilliantly programmed to convert any excess calories we eat into fat, and store it in our fat cells. Unlike the safe-deposit boxes you find at the bank, which are made of steel, fat cells are amazingly flexible. They grow bigger and bigger when excess fat is deposited into them, such as after a rich meal. And they shrink down to near-nothingness when we aren’t eating enough calories and so we make ‘withdrawals’ of fat to help feed the body.
I've rated it as 'Meh, I've experienced better,' but I'm feeling a bit generous. I used to be a member of the Marriott gym which was rather nice, but I couldn't afford to keep going. So, happy was I when PureGym appeared. I've now been a member for almost a year. On my first day, I booked an induction. No-one turned up to induct me, and the staff kept walking past, giving me dirty looks. In the end I had to go and find the gym manager, who passed me onto a rather young looking, non-gym-experienced teen. The gym serves it's purpose. there are machines. You can also book classes. I booked a power plate class once. I stood around the power plate at the allocated time for about 20 minutes. The staff just kept walking past, glaring at me. No-one stopped to help, not one of them asked if I was Ok. in the end I gave up and left. You just have to take it as it is. It isn't great, but you're paying at least £30 less than other city centre gyms. Unfortunately, this means that less 'nice' people frequent, and the changing rooms are pretty awful. The machines are also usually littered with well, litter, and aren't that clean. If I could afford to go elsewhere, I really think I would. But I can't. *sigh*.
Fodor is more enthusiastic about the LipoSonix technology. "I am very optimistic," he says." I love the results," he says citing as much as a 7-centimeter reduction in waist circumference seen in clinical trials conducted in Mexico. This technology, which uses high-intensity ultrasound waves, beamed about an inch under the skin to break up fatty tissue, has been studied in both pig models and in 33 people in Mexico, he says. The company has applied for FDA status to begin preclinical studies in the U.S. and expects such trials to begin in 2007.

For Marco Polo Club members of any level residing in Hong Kong, the partnership means they will now be able to get a complimentary 10-day pass to all Pure gym locations for first-time visitors, as well as a 50 per cent discount on any joining fee thereafter, five personal training sessions (at a cost of HK$3,250), and 25 per cent off of food juice cleanses.
Fat-dissolving and skin-tightening procedures for body contouring that are less invasive can seem oh-so-appealing when weighed against other options, such as liposuction. Some of the latest innovations include mesotherapy (lipodissolve), which involves the injection of various cocktails into the skin to dissolve fat, Thermage (also known as Thermacool or Thermalift), which uses radiofrequency to tighten facial skin for a "nonsurgical" face-lift, and LipoSonix, which uses high-intensity ultrasound to target and destroy fat cells.
CoolSculpting is a gentle, 40 to 75 minute treatment (depending upon which applicators are used) during which you may watch movies, TV, read, listen to music, nap, or work on your laptop. The Coolspa specialist will outline your target zones with a surgical pen, and then apply a soothing gel. Next, the cryolipolysis applicators will be placed strategically over your skin, drawing the target areas inside. Each applicator is computer monitored to ensure its proper temperature at all times.

The duration of a typical body sculpting treatment lasts for about thirty to forty minutes (maximum is an hour.) During this time, it is recommended to bring something with you to pass time since you will not be under a general anesthetic. Other ways to pass time is to get some of your work done or take a short nap while the procedure is going on. Comparing this to traditional surgical methods, which takes up to 10 hours to complete and a prolonged period of one month of downtime to recover.
What was once a friendly and organised gym has turned into a miserable experience since pure gym too...k over from soho gym in Lewisham. They released nearly all the instructors, some of whom had been working there for 20+ years and had built up a loyal clientele. No notice, no suitable replacements and now most classes are taken by PTs who have had little or no training. It's a joke and dangerous to train with instructors who do not appear to be qualified to teach group classes. The entire atmosphere has changed and loyal gym members have left in their droves. The low prices are not an incentive to stay. I'd rather pay more and have the excellent Les Mills classes taught by proper Les Mills instuctors thanks... just as they were before. See More
